Jelena Jankovic eyeing for Grand Slam success – Tennis News
Former world number one, Jelena Jankovic, is looking forward for Grand Slam glory in the upcoming season. She has recorded good results at the Grand Slam events for past few years and is eyeing to move up a gear.
Jankovic is bidding to capture a Grand Slam in the upcoming season. She has had success in Grand Slam events for past few years but is looking forward to get the breakthrough by capturing the title. The Serb’s favourite surface is clay and has reached semi-finals
at the Roland Garros three times. Jankovic has made a final showdown at the US Open and reached semi-finals there as well.
Jankovic suffered a poor season this year and failed to reach the quarter-finals of any Grand Slam events. She crashed out from the opening round at the Wimbledon Championships and exited from early rounds in the remaining Grand Slam events. However, the
Serb is still focused and is eyeing to conquer a Grand Slam in the 2013 season.
The Serb was quoted in an interview: "It's been a goal of mine for a long time to win a Grand Slam. I've been in the final one time at the US Open and many semifinals, but I've never won one - we'll see. My favorite surface is clay, and I've been to the
semifinals of Roland Garros three times, and I also like the US Open, where I was a finalist and a semifinalist. I've had a history of good results at Grand Slams and I just need to make one or two more steps than I have."
The 27-year-old started her 2012 season at the Brisbane International standing at number 14 in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings. She made a quarter-final showing and carried her momentum at the Australian Open, first of the four Grand
Slam events.
Jankovic secured semi-final berths at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and the BMW Malaysian Open. She also made title-round appearances at the AEGON Classic and the Texas Tennis Open. However, the Serb fell to four match losing streaks four times
this season. She also exited from second round at the Roland Garros and third round at the US Open, eventually ending the season at number 22 in the WTA Premier Rankings.
