Jelena Jankovic motivated to clasp a maiden Grand Slam trophy in 2013 – Tennis News

World number 22, Jelena Jankovic, was once ranked as the best player in the world almost four years ago. She was rocking the stage and loving her time at the courts but the 27-year-old Serb witnessed a major slump in her game and
is driven out of the Top-20 category at the moment. However, she is just a whisker away from breaking into the elite players list and there is no doubt about her capabilities at all. She has done it once and she can always perform a similar act again.
One of the biggest disappointments of Jankovic’s career is not her ranking dilemma but the Grand Slam trophy cabinet which is still empty. Unfortunately, the Serb powerhouse hasn’t been able to clinch a single biggest honour of
the sport in her entire career which is always frustrating for a player who has topped the world ranks. However, the spirits of the 27-year-old Jankovic is high and she is still confident of achieving that milestone which has been accomplished 15 times by
the former world number one, Serena Williams.
Jankovic stated in an interview to the media representatives of sport 360, “I was a finalist of the US Open. I played many semi-finals – French Open, Australian Open, US Open. I’d like to make that one step further and win a Grand
Slam. I won it in mixed doubles; I won it as a junior. I was No1 junior in the world when I was 15. I won the junior Australian Open. So that’s a goal and a dream of mine to win a Grand Slam. I’ve been No1 in the world and won many tournaments, but that’s
(Grand Slam win) something that I’d like to achieve in my career.”
Jankovic had a mixed season in 2012. She incurred injuries on several occurrences that forced her to withdraw from the tournaments and drop ranking points as well. She reached two finals in the season but couldn’t convert either
of the allotted opportunities to add anything to her title rack. She wasted an opportunity against the American qualifier, Melanie Oudin, in the final of the AEGON Classic at Birmingham having started the contest as the fifth seed (hot favourite).
The second seed Jankovic was driven out by the third seed Roberta Vinci in the final of the Texas Tennis Open at Dallas that ended another promising run for the Serb. It has been a frustrating season but the aims are high and possible
a Grand Slam title is just around the corner for Jankovic.
