Jelena Jankovic puts blame on jet lag and hectic schedule for her loss at Indian Wells – Tennis News
Former world number one, Jelena Jankovic, stumbled out of the BNP Paribas Open 2012 at Indian Wells, California, on Friday at the hands of the American wildcard entrant, Jamie Hampton, in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. It was a shocking
result for all the viewers as the Serb became the first of the seeded players to be knocked-out of the tournament.
Jankovic stated to the media representatives about her match on second round match against Hampton, “It was a bad day of tennis for me. I just did not feel the ball. My legs felt so heavy on the court, so I was moving very badly
out there.”
She also put the blame on the hectic schedule and too much travelling between the tours for her loss at the Indian Wells. She added, “I was in good form in Dubai and Kuala Lumpur, but maybe just had not much time to get over the
jet lag and feel fresh before this tournament.” It seems like Jankovic is not happy from her performance and probably frustrated from her early exit in California.
She was followed by the German tennis ace, Sabine Lisicki and the sixth seed Aussie superstar, Samantha Stosur, in the following days. It has been a good but taxing tournament for the rest of the seeded players including the likes
of the Serb beauty starlet, Ana Ivanovic, and the defending champion from Denmark, Caroline Wozniacki.
Jankovic had a mixed run in the recent past. She started off in Brisbane and reached the quarter-finals but failed to make an impact in Sydney. She reached the fourth round of the Australian Open but was dumped in her first match
at Doha.
Dubai proved to be a good tour for her. She went into the semi-finals but was ousted by the fifth seed Pole, Agnieszka Radwanska, in an epic see-saw three-setter. Another good run in the BMW Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur helped
her to place a berth in the semi-finals against the inferior ranked Croatian, Petra Martic, but she unfortunately couldn’t win the rain-interrupted match that was played in a couple of days.
A title is missing that will boost her morale and enhance her confidence. Ending her press conference, she stated, “I didn’t really know what to expect. I think the fact that I got a match under my belt here, the round before,
helped me a lot." May be she can revive her form in the upcoming tournament.
