Jelena Jankovic sidelines Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino in straight sets – US Open 2012
30th seed, Jelena Jankovic eased past the Spanish, Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino, in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, in the second round of the US Open 2012, held at the hard courts of New York on Thursday.
The former world number one, Jankovic, was one of the finalists at the Taxes Tennis Open and lost after a tough encounter with the Italian contender Roberta Vinci.

The Spaniard underdog commenced the opening set in a sloppy fashion and eventually bestowed the lead upon Jankovic. The Serbian tennis star picked her rhythm and smashed massive ground strokes against her rival to build the
score line to 3-1. Despite of her initial loss, Vecino tried her best to upset her rival but Serbian proved to be a far tougher challenger. She pounced forward to break Vecino’s serve and closed the opening set at a 6-4 lead.
The 20-year-old Spanish professional was unable to hold her initial serve at the start of the next set as well. Jankovic captured the opportunity, leaving no room for her rival to be proud off and marked the initial games
with her 2-love win. She completely dismantled the confidence of her opponent and grasped a surprising breakthrough toward the end to stamp her influence in the set.
The key reason for Vecino’s failure was her below than standard serve accuracy of 47 percent. She converted 18 of 28 first serve points in the match and only nudged one of the eight break points she crafted. In comparison,
the Serbian professional had a 77 percent serve precision and nailed down four of six break points against her competitor.
At the end of the match, Jankovic told the media, "She was a tough opponent with a very Spanish game - a great forehand with a lot of spin, and very solid off the ground. I had to work hard for each point and stay solid and
I'm happy I managed to win through today. I played pretty well today, but I needed to do some things better.  I was in the Top 10 for so long, I was No.1, I was used to being at the top. Two weeks ago I dropped to No.34 and now I'm back to No.27, so I'm on
a roll again!”
For future Jankovic will battle against the world number two Polish, Agnieszka Radwanska in the third round of the Grand Slam Championship.
