Jelena Jankovic wishes to become World Number one once again – Tennis News
Former World Number one, Jelena Jankovic, is arguable the most improved player this year and she is once again eyeing the top spot in the World rankings. On a question about her wish to become the ruler of the women’s tennis once again, she stated, "I wish.
It's my biggest wish. But sometimes there are things you can't control."
She was very unhappy from the weather condition at Dubai where she is currently playing in Dubai Duty Free Championships. She said, “I don't know what's happened to the weather here. I love it here. But it was very cold and it was windy out there, and it's
been a bit crazy with the dust too. I have been eating kilos of dust when I've been training. It's not the same as some of the desserts!"
Everyone is concerned about the dusty and windy conditions that are spoiling their game play in Dubai. Some top seeds have been a victim of this problem already including the likes of Francesca Schiavone who lost the Serb beauty queen, Ana Ivanovic.
Another blow to the tournament officials was received earlier on day one when the second seed Czech contestant, Petra Kvitova, pulled out of the tournament due to illness. There is a lot happening in Dubai and every player is disappointed at the windy conditions
which is making it really hard to place or pace the ball at will.
Jankovic is currently ranked at the 14th spot. She plans to beat her opponents in the following encounters especially after her left thigh muscle recovered from a severe injury that she received during the Federation Cup tie. Although, she played
through pain and won the contest for her country, her muscle was hurt badly.
Stating about the injury and latest condition of her left thigh muscle, she stated, “I had a 5.5-centimeter tear in the muscle, and now it's only a centimetre. So that's good." It looks like Jankovic is back in the sporting arena and means business.
She started her New Year’s campaign in Brisbane and ended up losing to the Italian contestant, Francesca Schiavone, in the quarters. Sydney did not prove fruitful as well as she lost in the second round to the winner of the tournament, Victoria Azarenka.
She made it to the fourth round of the Australian Open but failed to deal with the Dane, Caroline Wozniacki. She lost her first encounter in the Qatar Total Open as well but she looks good in Dubai and hopefully performs well to stack points and climb higher
in the rankings. Jelena is working hard to improve her ranking and compete at a higher level.
