Jelena Jankovic’s professional career is over?  Tennis News
Former world number one, Jelena Jankovic, is fighting a losing battle to sustain her tennis career. Lately, in a match at the Mercury Insurance Open in California, the third seeded Jankovic had to face a disappointing loss in the
semi-finals at the hands qualifier Chan Yung- Jan by 7-6, 6-7 and 5-7. Resultantly, many analysts consider this match as the end to former champion’s professional tennis career.
After the Serb’s climax of securing the world number one title, her performance graph shows a decreasing trend as currently she does not even compete for the Top-10 spot.
Jankovic states that she suffered from serious medical problem of pollen allergy during the match and hence due to increased pollen count she lost the match from Chan ranked number 161. "I lost my focus and I kind of brought her
back into the match," Jankovic said. "When I lost that second set, it was so tough mentally and, of course, physically because we are playing in the heat."
This clearly established the player’s unfit condition to compete for the same title and giving her tennis career a bad ending. Chad quoted: "(Jankovic) looked like she was out of the match and tired and didn't want to hang there."
The Serb has shown remarkable performance in her early years by even beating the current top ranked players and in comparisons to that, her year 2012 shows her consistent diminishing trend. Earlier this year she also withdrew from
a few matches due to her injury.
Despite of the fallbacks Jankovic still believes that she can reclaim her lost limelight and does not intend to bid farewell as a sportsman. She got selected to become a part of the Second annual Texas Tennis Open, held on 17th August
2012 including all the international top ranked players. “We are extremely pleased to add Jelena Jankovic to our already outstanding player field this early in the commitment process,” said Chris Giordano, Texas Tennis Open Tournament Director. “Jelena is
a phenomenal player, with a fantastic history on the WTA Tour. Her addition to our event, along with the other players already committed including last year’s champion Sabine Lisicki, will provide an outstanding opportunity for tennis fans to experience world-class
professional tennis in North Texas.”
Therefore, there is still a minute ray of hope beaming for Jankovic. With effort and determination she easy secure the Top-10 spot and prove it to the critics that “yes, it’s not over...not yet!”
