  1. yeeeeh, all along the Mediterranean coast, thousands, millions of them seeking revenge on mankind and stinging every Tom, d**k and Harry as they move on...

Try the Atlantic coast. No jellyfishes there. We defeated them.

  2. jellyfish are everywhere in the world

  3. Not sure what you heard or if you mean Valencia city or the Region. Anyway, the situation all along the East Coast is the same. There are jellyfish, there are always jellyfish. What sometimes makes the news is when you get an unusually large swarm from time to time. However, even when you do, that is what it is, a swarm, which then moves on quite quickly.

There situations have increased lately. It's said because of rising water temps and also the extensive fishing which has greatly reduced the numbers of fish that predate on jellyfish, such as tuna. Tuna find jellyfish very yummy.

The Valencia Govt did launch a programme in June, whereby recreational boaters keep a look out for jellyfish swarms and then warn the authorities.

You can't worry about jellyfish because you are going on holiday somewhere in Valencia. As I said they are passing swarms and it does not happen all that often. The other side of it is that there are odd jellyfish around everywhere that can sting you, but that applies to anywhere in the sea, particularly warm places, anywhere in the world.

Dangerous bathing will be notified to bathers by the yellow flag system anyway, so you will be in good hands in Spain. In fact there are much more dangerous things in the sea such as weaver fish. Now don't go and stand on one of those...LOL

  4. I was stung last week not far from Valencia and it is still very very painful. Ask the lifeguards before going in! The day following my sting I spoke with them and they said 35 people had been stung that morning on quite a small beach. Hardly anyone was in the water in the afternoon....

  5. There were jellyfish last year on the Costa Del Sol. (Quite a lot of them!) There were no signs or warnings up.  I was paddling in the sea with my 3 year old nephew and I saw a pink one (I thought it was a condom and was quite disgusted -lol!) when I looked closer I saw it was a jellyfish and saw a few more, I grabbed my nephew and ran back to the beach.  There was a dead one on the beach and I put it in a bucket and showed a local fisherman, and in broken English he said for me bad bad for him (my nephew) lethal - deadly.

So my advice to you would be stay out of the sea.

  6. I live south of Alicante and last year there were large swarms on the beaches up and down this coast due to breeding and migration of these fish, The situation was soon under wraps and they were collected in and nets laid in the sea the coastguard and fishermen are on the lookout as the season approaches again, they will again nat them etc. The beaches have coastguard/lifeguards with first aid kits so if you experiance any stings please se ethem for help. I had been told that amonia helps so i try and carry an afterbite pen with me which contains amonia available in the farmacia. As for the type of jellyfish and the sting i am unsure, everyone reacts differently I have never heard of anyone been seriously stung. If you are taking children ensure they wear something on their feet. Avoid standing on any dead jelly fish on the sands as they are still able to sting. as said befor ethese vreatures are found in every sea and ocean we use to have them in brid and scarborough. do not let it bother you too much, The weather is great and the air is clean come and enjoy relax, enjoy your holiday.

  7. many years ago i was stung by a jelly fish in spain,in only inches of water.MYankle was scared for 10 years, very, very painful!!

  8. jellyfish r not goood they  can sting u and hurt ur skin

  9. i live on the Costa Del sol and there have been some jellyfish here this year so far. they are normally quite some way off shore but do travel in occasionally with a strong current.

there are jellyfish patrols going on at the moment and the local fishermen have been asked to report any large nos off the coast so warnings can implemented.

unfortunatly i can't speak for Valencia as it's 300km north of where i am
