Jemile Weeks thanks fans and talks about the importance of hitting a home run
The Oakland Athletics were on top of their game on Thursday, September 22 when they beat the Texas Rangers 4-3 at Oakland Coliseum. The A’s were especially thankful to second baseman Jemile Weeks and the fans, who tuned up a noisy day at the ballpark. Weeks
was available after the game to talk about his latest knock in the game.
The star infielder was without a home-run in the season but that all changed on Thursday when one of Weeks’ three runs came in the form of a homer. He picked up the A’s in the first inning with a run as Josh Willingham drove him home with a double.
He later cut the deficit of two runs to one when he fed Colby Lewis his 35th conceded homer of the season. The star was on top of his game and he made everything count in his favour.
As David DeJesus equalised and made it 3-3 for the A’s in the seventh, Weeks ended the game in a victory as he ran home in the eighth off an RBI single from Coco Crisp. The player thanked the fans for their support.
"That was a big deal for me," Weeks said. "I came in with my normal approach trying to get it done against this tough team out here, and for me to go out and have a big day meant a lot to me, and I know it meant a lot to the fans. They've been supportive
all the way through for me, and what more can I ask for?"
The star hitter also talked about his long home-run drought that took a long time to end.
"Every day, I got something said about me or someone telling me something about the home run deal, but I think it's all in fun, and I took it all in fun," he said.
The player went on to say that they were giving him the silent treatment when he came in. They all however came back to congratulate him.
