Jemma Lowe conquers Women’s 200m butterfly gold medal - British Gas ASA National Championships
Jemma Lowe of Swansea Perf conquered the gold medal of the Women’s 200m butterfly in the open class category, on the closing day of the 2011 British Gas ASA National Championships.
The championships are conducting the second World Selection Trials, as British Swimming will announce their team to compete in Shanghai for the 2011 World Championships after the conclusion of the event. National swimmers, who failed to achieve gold medals
in their events at the first national championships in March, can ensure their entry in the British team to China after winning the gold medals in this national meet.
Jemma Lowe earned the title of the event in a brilliant time of 2 minutes and 05.36 seconds. Her perfect swimming strokes placed her in a comfortable lead over her following swimmer, as she was almost six seconds faster than her subsequent competitor. She
was followed by Elena Sheridan of Romford Town, who followed her on the podium for the silver medal by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 11.07 seconds. They were followed by Tilly Gray of Loughborough University, who stepped on the podium for the bronze medal,
by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 13.19 seconds.
Amanda Nugent of Salford finished her swim in the fourth fastest spot, by posting a time of 2 minutes and 13.40 seconds. She was followed by Grace Archer of Wandsworth, who stayed 1.37 seconds behind Nugent and completed her swim in the fifth fastest place,
by producing a time of 2 minutes and 14.77 seconds.
Gray’s team-member, Kirsty Armstrong, stayed only 0.41 seconds away from the fifth finisher and touched the wall for sixth position in a time of 2 minutes and 15.18 seconds. Jennifer Oldham and Fern Davies followed Armstrong on the finishing wall, by settling
as the seventh and eight position holders, with timings of 2:16.81 and 2:18.76 minutes, respectively.
Lowe was delighted with her gold winning effort, as she qualified for the British team to compete in Shanghai. In addition, she expressed her firm belief in putting up a good show in the 200m event, during her visit to China.
