Jemma Schlicht dominates Girls 50m freestyle gold: Day four – Australian Age Championships, Brisbane
Jemma Schlicht of Surrey Park dominated gold medal of the Girl’s 50m freestyle in the age category of 14 Year Olds on fourth day of the 2012 Australian Age Championships on Thursday, April 12 at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre.
Schlicht stayed prominently ahead of her challengers in the single lap event and with her smothering efforts, she reached the medal rostrum for gold medal by clocking a time of 25.90 seconds.
The champion was followed by Siobhan Haughey of Hong Kong, who stayed 0.03 seconds slower from her former finisher and transpired on the finishing end for second position with the timing of 25.93 seconds.
Haughey was followed by Brook Thornton of Acacia Bayside, who stayed nearly two strokes slower from her preceding swimmer and ended her swim in a time of 25.93 seconds for bronze medal.
In the meantime, the crowd witnessed a laudable effort of Vincent Dai of Cherrybrook Carl in the Boys equivalent event. Dai stayed marginally ahead of his following competitor and proved his eligibility for gold medal by touching the wall with an effort
of 24.24 seconds.
His gold claiming effort was trailed by Braga Verhage of West Coast, who stayed 0.13 seconds behind and hit the finishing wall for silver medal by producing an effort of 24.37 seconds. His effort was trailed by Alex Chin, who remained nearly two strokes
behind and emerged on the wall for bronze medal by hitting the wall with an effort of 24.62 seconds.
Subsequently, Lauren Rettie seized gold medal of the 100m backstroke in Girls 15 Year Olds category. Rettie remained nearly one body length ahead of her following swimmer and hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 02.86 seconds.
Her scintillating effort was trailed by Rebecca Booth, who occupied silver medal of the discipline by tapping the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 03.88 seconds. Her phenomenal effort was trailed by Sabrina Kwok, who hit the wall for third position by
clocking a time of 1 minute and 04.22 seconds.
In addition, the arena acknowledged marvellous swims of all participants in their respective events.
