Jen Hao Hsu: The indomitable shuttler clinches the title in the Austrian International Challenge
Jen Hao Hsu, an incredible badminton player from Chinese Taipei, grabbed his first International title by winning the Austrian International Challenge 2011 on Saturday the 26th of February, at Vienna, Austria.
The Taipei’s un-seeded player impressively defeated the number five seed Dmytro Zavadsky of Ukraine, in a straight set match that took a total of 40 minutes.
In the semi-final, Jen Hsu defeated the talented Malaysian shuttler Kenn Lim, in straight sets by a convincing score of 21-12 and 21-15. He spent 41 minutes in the court in the semi-final match and also revised the same performance in the final showdown
against the Dmytro of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian won his semi-final match against Vladimir Ivanov of Russia in a thrilling three set fight that took 47 minutes of quality play from both the sides involved. The final score of the match was 21-8, 14-21 and 21-17.
The final match of the Austrian International Challenge was expected to be a close fight as both players delivered a tremendous performance throughout the tournament.
But Taipei’s player stunned the Ukrainian by playing wonderful badminton and finished the match in straight games without sparing any chance to the opponent to fight back in the title match.
In the opening set of the match, Jen Hsu and Dmytro remained close in points, till the interval of the first game. Right after the interval, it was Taipei’s man who occupied the driving seat by accelerating the speed of the game.
His hard-to-return down-the-line smashes and tumbling net shots left no chance for the opponent to fight back in the game. He remained ahead of the Ukrainian in the second half of the first set and won it by a decent margin of 21-15.
In the opening points of the second set, Dmytro tried to match the speed of Jen but remained unsuccessful as Jen seemed to be in total control.
The Ukrainian player had no answer to the accurate smashes and strong pushes of Jen Hsu, who was remarkable in his shot selection and accurate execution. He won the second set by a big difference of 21-12. The concluding score of the final match was 21-15,
21-12.
With this win, Jen Hao Hsu has grabbed his first International title as he has never passed the semi-final stage in any International tournament. The player will remain busy in the upcoming month of March as he will be competing in the German Open Grand
Prix Gold 2011, All England Premier Super Series event and Swiss Open Super Series tournament. He is quite determined to continue his impressive run in all of these events of the Badminton World Federation.
