Jen Hao Hsu beats Kevin Cordon to clinch Men’s Singles crown at the 2011 Slovenia International
Chinese Taipei’s Jen Hao Hsu has clinched the Men’s Singles crown after beating Guatemala’s Kevin Cordon, in the final of the 2011 Slovenia International, in Medvode, Slovenia, on May 16.
Second seed, Jan Hao, worked really hard to chuck out the top seed, Kevin, who had earlier crushed the Tenth seed, Hannes Kasbauer of Germany, in the semi-final of the event.
In the opening set of the match, Kevin lost some easy points which helped Jen Hao build an 11-6 lead, at the end of the first-half. Hao played positively by waiting for the right opportunity to score points. He was playing with considerable ease against
the top seed by moving effortlessly in the court.
After the one-minute break, Jen Hao kept the pace of the rallies high and built more pressure on his opponent. Kevin tried to play a constructive game by increasing his speed, but his rival was quicker in picking the bird from all areas of the court. Jen
Hao grabbed the opening game in 17 minutes by a considerable margin of 21-14.
Stung by the loss of the first set, Kevin changed his strategy in the second set that earned him an 11-8 lead. The top seed controlled the pace of the rallies by picking the shuttle c**k early at the net. His aggressive style pushed Jen Hao on the back foot
and he managed to win the second set with a tight difference of 21-19, in 23 minutes.
Jen Hao played an attacking game in the starting points of the final game and quickly established a substantial lead of 11-5, until the interval. His spinning net strokes forced Kevin to lift the bird high in the air, which helped the second seed to execute
powerful smashes on the side-lines of the court.
He spent only 15 minutes to win the deciding set by a big margin of 21-10. The 55-minute fight ended up in favour of Jen Hao with a margin of 21-14, 19-21 and 21-10.
