Jen Hao beats Sung Min in pre quarter-finals of 2013 New Zealand Badminton Open
Men’s Singles expert Hsu Jen Hao reserved a berth in the quarter-final round of SKYCITY New Zealand Badminton Open after thrashing Sung Min Park in third round on April 12, 2013.
This pre quarter-final tussle remained in full swing for 55 minutes and both contenders challenged each other in all areas of game while piling up the final figures of 22-20 and 21-14.
The Taipei campaigner, who holds second spot in tournament ranking, laid foundation of his success immediately in the first set and then sealed a splendid straight-set victory by winning the second match point.
On the other hand, Sung Min failed to revive his lost form and crashed out of this Grand Prix event in a woeful manner.
In first set of the match, Jen Hao started with a great approach. He did not give his competitor enough time to get settled and established a strong grip over game.
He bagged many valuable points in a row and piled up a decent total in no time. He did not lose focus and finished first half of the set with a favourable score position.
Though, the Korean shuttler showed some spark in third quarter of the set and brought life back to the contest but then few back-to-back mistakes jeopardised his stakes.
Meanwhile, Jen Hao reinstated his dominance in the final stage and wrapped this segment of the showdown with a winning figure of 22-20.
The second set of match proved a dead contest after the mid-game break as Sung Min displayed a below par performance which led him to a woeful exit.
Initially, both contenders remained close on the points table and did not allow each other to gain a significant advantage.
The game kept swinging between them until the one-minute interval but then the Taipei campaigner showed superior badminton skills and tipped the scale in his favour.
Jen Hao prevailed in most of the ending rallies and earned the right to be in the round of eight of this esteemed event.
He registered 21-14 score on the board and setup his quarter-final clash with Arvind Bhat of India.
