Jenna Skieneh excels in Women’s 100m butterfly heats: Day one - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Jenna Skieneh S9B9M9 of WAC excelled in the qualification rounds of Women’s 100m butterfly Para S8-10 on first day of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Tuesday, March 27.
The 18-year-old Skieneh remained in a significant lead over her challengers throughout the event. She clocked a timing of 1 minute and 17.57 seconds to qualify into the playoff.
She was followed by Katarina Roxon S9SB8SM9 of IWSC, who snared second best qualification spot in the playoff by completing her swim in a time of 1 minute and 18.59 seconds.
The third best spot of the event was obtained by B Jennett-McNeil 10910 of CNG, who stayed almost four seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and settled on the concluding wall by producing a time of 1 minute and 22.03 seconds.
She was followed by Kennedy Pasay S9SB9SM9 of TRIT, who remained 0.62 seconds slower and hit the finishing end by submitting a time of 1 minute and 22.65 seconds.
Morgan Bird S8SB8SM8 of CASC was the fifth fastest swimmer of the discipline as she concluded her swim in a time of 1 minute and 23.61 seconds.
Subsequently, Brianna Nelson S7SB7SM7 of IS dominated the preliminary rounds of Women’s 50m butterfly Para S1-7. The 19-year-old Nelson faced tough battle from her competitors but she succeeded in finishing first by submitting a time of 41.29 seconds.
Sarah Mehain S7SB7SM7 of VKSC was the second best qualifying swimmer of the event as she stayed just 0.22 seconds ahead of her former finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 41.51 seconds.
The third best position of the discipline was obtained by S McDougall S7SB6SM7 of SKSC, who remained nearly fifteen seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and entered the final round with the timing of 56.92 seconds.
She was chased by S Couture S7SB7SM7 of SWA, who earned her way into the playoff as fourth position holder by producing an effort of 1 minute and 02.47 seconds.
In addition, the crowd acknowledged phenomenal efforts of all contestants in their exclusive events while the session ended after the conclusion of all events.
