Jenna Strauch clinches Girls 200m breaststroke title: Day five – Australian Age Championships
Jenna Strauch of Melbourne Vicentre clinched gold medal of the Girls 200m breaststroke in the age group of 15 Year Olds on day five of the 2012 Australian Age Championships at the Sleeman Sports Complex, Brisbane on Friday, April 13.
Strauch remained evidently ahead of her following swimmer from the start of the event. With her immaculate efforts, she remained considerably ahead of her strongest challenger, Emma Handley of Maribyrnong as she clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 35.64 seconds.
Her title-claiming struggle was trailed by Handley, who tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 36.26 seconds for silver medal.
Handley was chased by Maddison Dwyer of Carss Park, who suffered a loss of nearly one second and stepped on the victory stand for bronze medal by posting a time of 2 minutes and 37.16 seconds.
Meanwhile, the audience witnessed gruelling efforts of James Traiforos of Trinity Grammar in the Boys equivalent event. Traiforos proved his supremacy over his challengers from the start of the event as he tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and
23.89 seconds for gold medal.
His marvellous effort was chased by Rory Brown of East Brisbane, who completed his race in a time of 2 minutes and 27.11 seconds for silver medal.
Brown was chased by Lachlan Colquhoun of Woden, who hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 28.91 seconds for bronze medal of the event.
Last event of the session was 200m Individual Medley (IM) in Girls 16 Year Olds category, where Hayley Baker served notice of her talent by posting an effort of 2 minutes and 15.93 seconds.
Her effort was followed by Tianni Gilmour of Pelican Waters, who ended second with the timing of 2 minutes and 17.11 seconds.
The third spot of the event was secured by Leah Neale of Cyms St Edmund's, who proved her eligibility for third position of the discipline by touching the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 18.66 seconds.
Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all planned events while the winners collected their medals after the session.
