Jennie Johansson wins Women’s 50m breaststroke gold: Day two – 2012 Swedish Grand Prix, Uppsala
Jennie Johansson demonstrated her immaculate efforts by clinching gold medal of the Women’s 50m breaststroke event on day two of the 2012 Swedish Grand Prix in Uppsala, Sweden on Sunday, February 5.
Johansson made no mistake in the shortest breaststroke swim and impressed her supporters by overpowering her competitors for the top spot of the race. The 23-year-old Johansson showed no mercy to her opponents in the single lap event and claimed victory with a considerable distance.
She was the quickest swimmer to leap into the water and gained competitive edge over her challengers. With her irresistible efforts, she kept her competitors at a considerable bay and pocketed the title of the race by submitting a time of 31.52 seconds.
She was chased by Andrea Bengtsson, who remained 2.01 seconds behind her and stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by hitting the wall with the timing of 33.53 seconds. Bengtsson experienced strong resistance from her opponent, Goteborg Sim, but managed to out-touch her on the finishing end.
Sim remained just 0.11 seconds slower from the second position holder and cemented third place on the podium by producing a time of 33.64 seconds.
In the meantime, the crowd witnessed a remarkable struggle of Imri Ganiel, who seized gold medal of Men’s 100m breaststroke discipline. Ganiel remained almost one body length away from his closest swimmer, Johannes Skagius and touched the finishing end with timing of 1 minute and 03.27 seconds.
He was followed by Skagius, who remained just 0.95 seconds away from the gold medallist and tapped the finishing blockade with the timing of 1 minute and 04.22 seconds. The second position holder was traced by Jakob Dorch, who remained just 0.22 seconds behind and ended his race in a time of 1 minute and 04.44 seconds for bronze medal.
The session ended after the completion of all listed events in Men and Women’s category while the crowd acknowledged forceful efforts of all participants in their respective disciplines.
In addition, the podium finishers were called upon the medal rostrum for their immaculate efforts at medal ceremony of the championship.
