Jennifer Capriati: A Legendary tennis player and now a hall of famer – Tennis Special
Former world number one, Jennifer Capriati, is another lucky superstar from the history of tennis who will be honoured for her service is this field for over a decade. She is elected to be included in the International Tennis Hall
of Fame; a highest degree of honour for any tennis player in the field of tennis.
She was an exciting player to watch; never bowed down easily to anyone even in her depth age. She was known for her classic comebacks and seen as the most dangerous competitor of all times. She won three Grand Slam titles along
with a gold medal in Olympics. Her title tally also includes the prestigious Federation Cup title as well. She was a stunning player to say the least.
In her first season on tour, she broke into the Top-10 players of the world and stayed there for quite a long time before reaching the number one spot in October 2001. It was her dream to top the list and she clubbed that position
for almost 18 weeks that is quite remarkable in women tennis.
On her inclusion in the list of Hall of Famers, the American tennis icon stated, “I am thrilled to learn that I have been elected to the International Tennis Hall of Fame. This is a dream come true and an extraordinary tribute.
I love this game and am incredibly honoured by the Hall of Fame’s vote. Tennis has been my passion and dedication for my entire life, and to be acknowledged for this passion and dedication is truly icing on the cake.
She further added, “Finally, to all of my fans: You mean so much to me. I am, and have always been, blessed beyond words by your support both during and after my playing days. You unquestionably made this game so memorable for
me and I miss you all so much.”
It is remarkable how time flies away. There were times when the American players were all over the world. The likes of the Serena Williams and Venus Williams ruled the world of tennis after the departure of Capriati. She left the
world of tennis at the age of 28 in 2004. Some people thought she had left the sport a bit too early but for a player of her class; it takes a lot of toll on the body to play tennis throughout the year.
Women usually leave earlier than men because their body is not able to absorb all the pressure at a later age. Same is the case with the Belgian former world number one, Kim Clijsters, who is struggling to get rid of injuries.
In my opinion, it was a good decision by the American to quit tennis at a high-note. She was at number three position in the world rankings in late 2003; soon after, she decided to quit the world of tennis for the greater good.
She is definitely a deserving player to be greeted in the category of hall of fame.
