Jenny Gleason wins Northeast Delta Dental International in playoff
American Jenny Gleason, who kicked off the Northeast Delta Dental International 2012 in an impressive style, drained a birdie on the first hole of playoff, beating Esther Choe.
The Northeast Delta Dental International, a Symetra Tour event, was held at Beaver Meadow Golf Course, Concord, New Hampshire, and featured a fearsome 144-player field containing prominent names.
Gleason was stunning right from the start of the prestigious tournament, as she kicked off her first round by shooting a 69. Scoring a 69 in the opening round helped the American star boost her confidence, and she managed to put more pressure on her nearest rivals.
Other contenders also tried to give a tough time to Gleason, but the rising star did not lose her momentum and kept moving ahead with the help of balanced strokes.
The second round went even better for the American golfer, as she stayed as calm as she was at the start of the tournament. She posted a stunning 68 on the second day and further consolidated her position on the leaderboard.
Esther Choe of the United States came close to rattling Gleason, as she remained in contention till the final moments of the event. Choe registered an overall 211 in the three rounds to stand tied for the first position along with Gleason, and moved into playoff.
Gleason, who had already piled up a big score by the end of the second round, faltered in the last round as she posted a 74.
Although a little demoralised after letting Choe share the lead with her in the third round, Gleason atoned for her errors in playoff and reeled off a superb birdie on the first hole to rack up the Symetra Tour title.
Speaking to the media at the end of the tournament, Gleason said that she felt a bit under pressure when she came face-to-face with her nearest rival in playoff. She said that at one stage she was convinced that Choe would grab a victory.
She added that she held her nerve and landed the ball safely in the fairway and shot a birdie-putt.
Sharing her thoughts about the victory, Gleason said that she is more than thrilled after beating a strong contender at Concord.
