Jenny Meadows still ambitious to dominate the field – Athletics news
Jenny Meadows, who boasts of a tremendous athletics history and was out of the game, has expressed her resolve to capitalise on her past successes and make a comeback in her professional career.
The 800m bronze medallist at World and European events, Meadows, is all set to appear at the Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix and Aviva London Grand Prix. The major athletics events are regarded as the British legs of the global tour of Samsung Diamond League.
Before that, she is determined to use her Shanghai success as a launching pad at the IAAF World Championships commencing in Daegu, later this summer.
Meadows will appear in her first competition at Birmingham Alexander Stadium on July 10, before opting for the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre on August 5-6.
The British athlete initiated her success in this outdoor season by claiming a convincing win at the Samsung Diamond League meeting held on May 15. Displaying her ever dominating potential, the 30-year old athlete remained calm as she made strides towards
the finishing line in the 300m competition, where she bagged an emphatic victory for clocking 2:00.54 minutes.
Shanghai was the first athletic platform where Meadows appeared this summer, after closing an appreciable indoor season which observed her prevailing at the Aviva International Match, along with the Aviva Grand Prix organised in Birmingham.
The disappointment she could not help averting was the failure to turn her silver into gold at the 800m European championships event in Paris. The British athlete is all charged now to make up for her lost gold medal and she is travelling to South Korea
with a winning resolve this August.
Marking her determination to do well at Daegu and acknowledging the importance of this huge athletics event, Meadows said, “I’m really pleased to be competing at both the Aviva London Grand Prix and the Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix this year. The Samsung
Diamond League is playing a major part in my year as it’s really important that I am competing against the very best in the world.”
She said that participating and performing in this event will also help her in preparing for the World Championships and the Olympics.
Talking about the UK events, she said, “I know that the field for both meet in the UK will be competitive, it should provide a real show for the spectators but also give me some good races at a really important stage of the season. The World championships
are so important to me; I would love to better my bronze from Berlin in 2009.”
Referring to the Berlin competition, she further added that it was a good year which brought host of successes for her. Meadows was of the view that while marking the same determination, she wanted to build up on her past successes.
The British based athlete admitted that despite winning a silver medal at Paris, she was disappointed from the outcome of the event and in an attempt to make up for the ‘not that good performance’ in March, she will now strive to outdo her rivals at Daegu’s
platform.
