Jenny Shin finishes fifth at Mizuno Classic 2012
South Korean Jenny Shin posted an overall 210 at the Mizuno Classic 2012 to finish tied for the fifth position along with three other contenders.
Jenny started brightly at the prestigious Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tournament, but missed several chances on Friday, standing tied for the 19th position on the
leaderboard.
Following the first round, Jenny picked up pace and jumped to a tie for third after shooting a 69 in the second round.
Having struggled to make several attempts in recent months to find a place inside the top 5, Japanese spectators did not expect Jenny to put up such a good score on the leaderboard.
After the second round, the South Korean golfer was convinced that she could surprise fans this time if she managed to steer clear of bogeys.
Jenny started the round on Sunday with a par on the first hole. She then shot her first birdie on the par-4 second. However, due to a misjudged putt on the greens of 4th hole, she
carded a bogey.
Jenny once again faltered and ended up registering her second bogey on the par-4 6th.
Commentators said that two bogeys took a serious toll on Jenny’s overall score and she lost momentum. However, the second round went well.
Sharing her thoughts during her second-round interview, the South Korean star said that she was very confident after shooting a 69 and hoped to keep the momentum going in the third and final
round as well.
“I started off with a chip-in on No. 2, so that was a good start. I’ve been putting significantly better this week compared to other weeks, so that has helped me a lot this week,” she said.
Jenny went on to say that her putting has been a bit jittery in the past few weeks, which appears to have hurt her short game. “My shot is a little bit shaky because of the wind and all but
I hung in there and gave myself changes to make birdies. I made those when I really needed to”.
She further said that the weather was rough, but she held her ground. “Actually Taiwan really helped me prepare for this wind”.
