Jenny Smallwood and Jamie Webb take 2012 United 4 Regatta – Sailing News
After spending a whole week in Medemblik Holland for training and participation in the 2012 United 4 Regatta, the RS Feva National Squad finally came back with the regatta title. The regatta produced some outstanding sailing competitions on the race course.
The squad had a two-day training session with Coach Dave Hivey and after that they went to take part in the regatta.
The first day of training was unfavourable because there was no wind to start with but after a while a moderate breeze surrounded the area and the team began their training. They launched their RS Fevas under some useful light winds and trained on boat speed
and cloud awareness. Later on the first training day, the team had a meeting where they made their plan for the regatta competitions.
Second day of training brought enough breeze and they were able to make complete preparations for the regatta along with the coach. Despite the fact that the second day started with a light breeze, but more wind filled in later for them to complete their
training and participate in the competition with full confidence and preparation.
Jenny Smallwood and Jamie Webb had a tremendous start in the regatta and grabbed the first race win snatching the lead from Dutch sailors, Daan Dutilh and Roos van Lookerenoat. The wind conditions were quite ideal which helped the fleet enjoy a perfect sail
on the Holland waters.
On the second day, due to the heavy winds circling around the race course, the race committee decided to cancel the proceedings but the squad confirmed that they will sail. However, the race began in 20 knots with great waves and the fleet had a perfect
sail.
