Jens Lehmann blasts Manchester City for playing ‘boring’ football
Former German international http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jens-Lehmann-c18297 has criticised Manchester City for playing boring football and has stated that he is relieved that the team will not be in the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League. He insisted that
the English giants have splashed the cash in the summer but the game they play is not close to what clubs in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 are known for.
Manchester City were knock-out of the Champions League this week when a win against Bayern Munich at home was not enough as Napoli won their corresponding fixture against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Villarreal-CF-c40899. The English side’s maiden campaign in Europe’s
premier club competition did not last long as they could not progress to the knock-out stages.
Lehmann claimed that City were very poor in the Champions League this season and insisted that they play negative football. He claimed that the English club tries to keep lots of possession in the match but fail to create enough
chances at the opponent’s goal.
“Man City play very, very boring football. They just make their opponents fall asleep with lots of possession. There was no life in the stadium. The fans are so quiet. They had possession all of the time, albeit in their own half
where nothing was happening,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The former Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper added that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 truly deserved to qualify
for the next round and will be a competitive team in the latter stages of the tournament.
“It is a shame because it is not typical English football. Napoli have heart and passion and I liked them. It is good that they have gone through. We don't want to see Manchester City in the Champions League,” he concluded.
Manchester City are still leading the Premier League standings table with 38 points with 12 wins from the 14 games played. The Citizens are still unbeaten in the Premier League and are the favourites to win at the end of the season.
