Jens Lehmann could be number one at Arsenal again, as Pepe Reina hints at Liverpool exit
Jens Lehmann could replace Manuel Almunia
After yet another horrific display Arsenal keeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jens-Lehmann-c18297. The Spaniard single handedly cost the Gunners the game and precious three points as Arsenal stumbled to a 2-2 draw against West Bromwich
Albion over the weekend.
Almunia conceded a goal that should not have been. The 33-year-old left his line to clear a long ball but ended up entangled with Sebastien Squillaci, giving http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peter-Odemwingie-c29794 an open goal. This is not the first time Almunia has made such a mistake that has
cost his side the match.
With the other two keepers http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wojciech-Szczesny-c36998 out for possibly the rest of the season, Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger had no choice but to bring in Lehmann, the former Arsenal keeper. Even though the German had retired from football in 2010,
Wenger had no other option.
It seems like Wenger made the right decision, since Almunia is in no condition to see the rest of this season out. Especially after Saturday, it will come as no surprise if the French manager does indeed replace Almunia as the first choice keeper in favor
of Lehmann.
The Arsenal boss was not pleased after the 2-2 draw with West Brom in a match that was a must-win for the Gunners to maintain the pressure on league leaders Manchester United. The draw leaves them five points behind United with a game in hand and Wenger
revealed he was hopeful, despite the poor result.
While speaking to reporters Wenger said, “I don't want to go into individual criticisms. The players who were involved know what dignity is about. What was good was the reaction the whole team has shown with their fighting spirit and it will be interesting
until the end because we are ready to focus and ready to fight.”
Wenger joined Arsenal in 2003 and played every match as the Gunners made history, going unbeaten that season and winning the Premier League crown. Despite his erratic history with the London club, the 41-year-old remains a favourite at the Emirates Stadium
and could be expected to take over from Almunia once again.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pepe-Reina-c29672’s desire to win trophies
Liverpool number one, Pepe Reina hinted at leaving Liverpool soon, if the team did not return to winning as they had previously. He said while speaking to reporters, “We have to strengthen. If we want to improve then we have to do that. It is our duty to
be strong, to get better.”
Reina arrived at Anfield in 2005, back when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 was still in the title race and competing for the Champions League. Things have changed since then, Liverpool have failed to make it to the top four and are currently at sixth place in the English Premier
League.
They have also failed to qualify for the Champions League for two seasons now and were recently eliminated from the Europa League, the second tier European competition. Reina revealed he was not certain how much more time he had to play and wanted to win
the Premier League and the Champions League.
The Spaniard continued, “It's not about being patient. It's about the club winning and I want to be competitive. We used to fight to be among the top team and be in the Champions League. Sadly that's not the case now. I want to win titles.”
