Newly signed Arsenal keeper Jens Lehmann is trying to help the young Gunners squad overcome their recent disappointments in the FA Cup, Carling Cup and the UEFA Champions League. The former German International is hoping that some of his vast experience
will rub off on his teammates, as they look to overthrow Manchester United in the race for the Premier League title.
Just two weeks ago, Arsenal were in the running for a possible quadruple. The Gunners were in a strong position in both the UEFA Champions League and FA Cup competitions, and they had a real chance to end their long standing trophy drought by beating Birmingham
in the final of the Carling Cup.
What a difference a fortnight can make.
The young Arsenal squad once again choked at the finish line, crashing out from all three competitions with a string of dismal performances. Their downward spiral started after their Carling Cup final defeat to Birmingham City, and the Gunners have so far
failed to bounce back.
Now, the club has only the Premier League title to fight for, and goalkeeper Jens Lehman has declared that he will do everything in his power to help his side achieve that target.
Lehmann, who was an integral part of the Gunners from 2003 to 2008, has been called out of retirement to help his former employers cope with their crippling injury crisis. Senior goalkeepers http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lukasz-Fabianski-c22910 are unfit to play, leaving
only http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-Almunia-c23386 to guard the Arsenal goal.
Lehmann will be on the bench for the Gunners for their encounter against West Bromwich Albion. However, his impact won’t be restricted to his performances on the pitch.
Speaking on his return to his old club, Lehmann said, “I have got that - in terms of experience, I am still good, so I need to give that onto the young lads. I hope we will be successful in getting the trophy, to give that extra bit of conviction to the
players - that is why I am here and why the boss (Arsene Wenger) has asked me to come.”
Arsenal are currently in second place in the Premier League standings, three points behind leaders Manchester United, with a game in hand.
