http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jens-Lehmann-c18297 still hopeful about Arsenal’s title credentials: English Premiere League
Arsenal's newest recruit, Jens Lehmann, feels that Arsenal Football Club still has the capability to defy all odds and prove the bookmakers wrong in their bid for the Premier League title this season.
The 41-year-old veteran made a somewhat ‘controversial’ return back to the sport that he left nearly 3 years ago. However, despite hanging his gloves, the German decided to come out of retirement in hopes to provide some much needed cover in the goal keeping
department for Arsenal.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lukasz-Fabianski-c22910 finds himself out for the rest of the season after surgery. With an under-performing Manuel Almunia, relegated from being Arsenal’s
first choice goal keeper to third choice, Arsene Wenger was in dire need for back up in the Gunners’ bid for the English Premier League title.
Many saw the move as a sign of desperation. A team that has often offered a lot yet fallen short of any real conviction to win something since the FA Cup final win against Manchester United back in 2005, signing a ‘has been’ looked anything but sensible.
There was also another school of thought that argued that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-Almunia-c23386 could still keep goal; Lehmann was merely a bench warmer, a quick yet temporary fix if something were to go wrong.
What exactly Wenger’s plans were, we will never know. As the German international was called into action at the eleventh hour after reports of an injury to Manuel Almunia in the warm up ahead of the 3 – 1 away win over Blackpool.
The North Londoners presently find themselves 7 points behind the Red Devils with a game in hand. Also, since Sir Alex Ferguson’s men still have to travel to the Emirates, Lehmann is quite optimistic that his team could still turn the tables.
Lehmann commented, "They are only four points ahead when we win our game in hand," said the German. "Look at me - you never know what is going to happen in life."
He further added, "Manchester is a good team but they have to play in a lot of competitions in the next week. I know from my own experience how exhausting that can be."
The short stopper might have a fair point there. However, it is also dependent on his team’s consistency from here on in; complemented by their ability to hold their nerve, a trait Alex Ferguson and his men seem to excel in.
