Jens Voigt confident after the Tour de France success
Jens Voigt of Team RadioShack-Nissan had a good Tour de France 2012 which has boosted his confidence for the remaining part of the season.
The 40-year-old marked his professional debut with Team ZWG-Giant-Australian Institute of Sport in 1997.
He also represented Team GAN (1998-2003), Team CSC (2004-10), Team Leopard Trek (2011) and joined Team RadioShack-Nissan for the 2012 season.
Voigt finished second during the stage 5 of the Tour of California and the Paris-Nice 2012 along-with a third place finish during the stage 3 of the Tour de France.
He finished sixth at the Tour de France stage 16 and occupied the ninth overall spot during the opening stage of the Criterium International.
The German announced his retirement earlier but the recent form encouraged him to continue for one more year.
"This year, not every race I was in perfect condition or shape," he told Cyclingnews.
"So I sort of doubted myself a little bit, like am I losing it? Should I stop? Is it not there anymore? But then I did a good Tour de France and it showed me that if it's important”.
“If the pressure is there, I can still perform. If I am needed and people rely on me, I can still do it".
"This year would have been the first year where I would say, 'Look, 70 percent yes, I'm gonna do the Tour, 30 percent maybe not".
Jens finished the opening stage of the Tour of Utah at the last spot and is optimistic to enhance his performance for the coming stages of the race.
His one-year term with the Luxembourg team has proven to be really fruitful but the cyclist is believed to have started negotiating with numerous teams.
Team RadioShack-Nissan is going through a tough time after the Team General Manager is accused of administering and trafficking UCI banned substances.
The team’s main sponsor Enovos has ended his associations which caused a lot of uncertainties amongst the riders.
Voigt has admitted that he is under negotiations with several teams but he has not yet made a final choice for his new home.
