Jens Voigt on the Amgen Tour of California
Jens Voigt of Team RadioShack-Nissan is having a difficult season with no victories in his bag yet.
The cyclist was last seen in action at the Amgen Tour of California and he could not secure any better than the 33rd overall position after the final general classifications.
Jens finished 16 minutes and 4 seconds behind the overall leader Robert Gesink and is not happy with his current performance.
Robert completed the eight-staged race in a total time of 30 hours, 40 minutes and 32 seconds and occupied the top podium spot.
David Zabriskie of Team Garmin-Barracuda finished 46 seconds behind at the second position while Thomas Danielson, Tejay Van Garderen and Fabio Andres Duarte Arevalo occupied the third, the fourth and the fifth positions respectively.
Jens is now keen to mark his return during the 2013 edition of the Californian race with full preparations and aims to take his performance to the next level.
The 40-year-old might be seen in a different role for the coming seasons but it is still not confirmed whether he will continue as a rider, team director or any other role.
He briefed, “Well, I was thinking more like I should become Governor. I believe my English is almost as good as the one from Arnold [Schwarzenegger], so why not”.
The German started his professional pursuit with Team ZVVZ-Giant-Australian Institute of Sport in 1997 and spent a period of one year with the side.
He also represented Team GAN (1998-2003), Team CSC (2004-2010) and finally penned a deal with Team Leopard Trek for 2011 season.
Voigt is having a difficult season and has not registered a single victory since he signed up with the Luxembourg based team.
While commenting about his experience on the Amgen Tour of California, he cited, “I think they all believed in their chances: Rabobank with Gesink and the BMC guys with TeJay [Van Garderen]”.
“They believed in their chance, and of course team Garmin with David Zabriske believed in their chance,
“So with three teams chasing, it's a lot of riders chasing, but that's just what cycling is,” he concluded.
While giving a serious answer to the questions about his 2013 plans, Voigt has shown interest to ride for one more season as a cyclist.
