Jens Voigt optimistic to support Andy Schleck and Fabian Cancellara in the coming season
After extending his stay with Team RadioShack-Nissan for one more year, Jens Voigt has shown interest towards helping Fabian Cancellara and Andy Schleck for the 2013 season.
He has worked with both the cyclists in the past and briefed that he could be really useful to help the team coming out of slump in the season ahead.
The 40-year-old is known as an all rounder as well as a break way specialist and is vastly experienced.
He started riding with Team ZWZ-Giant-Australian Institute of Sport in 1997 and spent a period of one year with the team.
Voigt also represented Team GAN (1998-2003), Team CSC (2004-10) before finally accepting an offer from Team Leopard Trek for the 2011 season.
Team RadioShack and Team Leopard Trek announced their merger for the 2012 season and only the best riders form each side were given contracts.
The German had enough victories in his bag to secure a spot at the newly form Team RadioShack-Nissan’s roster.
However, he could not really perform to his capabilities in the current season but his stage 4 and the mountains classifications victory at the USA Pro Cycling Challenge were good enough to earn him one-year contract with the team.
Team RadioShack-Nissan had a terrible 2012 season and would like to forget it and start the new season on a new note.
“I see a lot of potential with our team, and I see that we have all the ingredients to make it a successful,” Voigt told Cyclingnews.
“For several reasons we didn’t get the best out of our team this year, but I see the challenge of trying to make this all work”.
“I believe we’re going to come back and have a great next year and I want to be part of that. I want to help bring Andy back on track”.
“I’d love to see him a being a serious contender at the Tour de France. Also Fabian”.
It will be interesting to see, how the Luxembourg team performs in the season ahead as it has all the necessary ingredients to be a top World Tour team.
