Jens Zemke hired by HTC-Highroad
German former professional cyclist and experienced sports director Jens Zemke has been hired to join HTC-Highroad’s directing team for 2011.
The rider retired from competition ten years ago and worked as a sports director for team Equipe Nürnberger for seven years before joining the staff at the Cervélo TestTeam in 2009.
"This is another step forward for me. In my eyes, this team is the best professional team in the world," said Zemke.
"Bob Stapleton and his crew have always been successful in finding young talent and developing riders; I'm proud to be part of this operation."
Zemke will be involved with both the men’s and women’s teams in 2011, joining a staff made up of Brian Holm, Allan Peiper, Valerio Piva, Jan Shaffrath, and Ronny Lauke.
"Zemke is the perfect answer to this new position in our team," said team manager Rolf Aldag. "Both our men and women will benefit from his knowledge and experience."
HTC-Highroad has also signed 23-year-old American cyclist Caleb Fairly for at least two years with the team.
"Fairly is a great young rider who demonstrates a lot of potential," said Aldag.
2011 will be Fairly’s first year in the professional peloton following a stagiaire role at team Garmin-Transitions. In the 2010 season, fairly won the Tour of the Battenkill ahead of Floyd Landis, finished on the podium at the Giro della Toscana and was
the 28th across the line at the Paris-Tours, won by Oscar Friere.
"I'm very excited about the opportunity to join HTC-Highroad for the next two seasons," said Fairly. "This team has a reputation for developing young talent in the ProTour, and I am honoured to be a part of such a great team and organisation."
Fairly is the fifth new member of the team after Matthew Brammeier, John Degenkolb, Danny Pate and Alex Rasmussen.
