only serious techs or persons only respond please: have a jensen vm9511ts, got from ebay in great shape, bought a harness and other junk for it and got it fired up no problem, i had to go get a part the other day and i had the unit running and sitting on my passenger seat and i had it playing while i was driving and it was perfect no skips no cuts no nothing, but now i have unit in the dash and it will cut out, not the power or the screen just the sound will die, think its just simple spearker connection? cause all the speakers cut out not just one...so im at a loss. im usually great at fixing these problems but this one is bugging me cause i cant relax when driving cause i have to hear it cutting in and out. Thank for any help

  1. Most of the time if there is a short in the speaker connections, the system will protect itself and shut off the internal amp. hey, its better than it overheating and having to buy a new one. Also, try not to tape these connections together. Go to a local Pep-boys or shop and grab crimp cap connectors. its a safer connection and they one come undone without large force. This will save you in the long run.

  2. My guess is that you have a speaker wire that's shorted behind the head unit.  Maybe it got pinched when you pushed the player into the dash, or maybe your tape or insulation came off.  When a speaker wire is shorted to ground, it usually causes the head unit to shut down its internal amplifier for protection.  Your short is intermittent, which is why it's not silent all the time.

Pull it back out of the dash and closely inspect all the speaker wires for pinched or bare spots.
