Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton ready for off-throttle blown diffuser ban at British GP – Formula 1
Both of the McLaren drivers Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton have said that they are ready for the off-throttle blown diffuser ban this weekend at the British Grand Prix.
Both the British drivers claim it is going to be a ‘reasonably big hit’ for the three top running teams of the sport which are Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull Racing.
“I think it's quite a bit that the top teams will lose. We've had it for a while now and you start designing the car around the systems that you have in place. It's going to be a reasonably big hit and you'll feel it everywhere; high and low speed. On power
not so much but it's more under braking,” said Button.
The 2009 Formula 1 champion added that the biggest problem for the drivers is going to be braking for the corners as they are now used to the car with the off-throttle blown diffuser and without it, the car is going to change quite noticeably.
However, it is expected that this ban is going to affect Red Bull Racing team’s pace the most out of the three top running teams. As a result, the pace difference between them, McLaren and Ferrari will become relatively narrower.
Lewis Hamilton echoed his teammate’s words as he also claims that the difference is going to be big and taking away some of the engine modes from the car makes it quite difficult for the driver to understand the physics of the car.
“When you take away the engine modes that we were using before it will be different for the likes of Ferrari and for the Renault engines particularly, because I think they use it slightly differently to us. I really, really hope that we are at least as good
as them if not better,” he said.
Nevertheless, the upcoming race is indeed going to be very interesting as the fans will be hoping for a closer battle at the front of the field.
