Jenson Button: Fernando Alonso has better chance of chasing Sebastian Vettel in Spa – Formula 1
Former Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button has recently admitted before the Belgian Grand Prix that Fernando Alonso has a better shot at Sebastian Vettel this weekend as compared to the rest of the championship chasers.
“It's going to be more difficult for Mark because obviously he's in the same car as Sebastian. If he's quick, it's more than likely that Sebastian is going to be quick also. He might take points off him but there is every chance at the next race Seb will
get him back. It's easier for us and obviously the easiest for Fernando, who if his car is quick is going to win,” he said.
Since Alonso’s teammate Felipe Massa is out of the championship run, the Brazilian driver is going to try his best to compete alongside the championship runners and probably disable them in performing better than his teammate.
For McLaren and Red Bull Racing Team on the other hand, this is not going to be the case as both of their respective drivers are competing for the title actively. Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button are still in the championship run mathematically as a result
of which none of them is going to back down for his teammate.
Same is the case with the two RBR drivers as Mark Webber still has a chance of closing in on his teammate’s championship lead.
“It's a long shot for all of us to be fair, but we're going to hang onto it and we're going to fight right the way through to the end,” he added.
Nevertheless, Button still believes that his team is in a pretty good position as compared to RBR and that the team is going to try its best to enable both of its drivers to finish ahead of Sebastian Vettel in order to inflict maximum damage on their rivals.
