Jenson Button: Finishing point less is massive and it really hurts – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has expressed that he feels really hurt to finish the races without scoring any points while he said that to be near the front is crucial to fight for the championship title.
The Briton is currently standing at fourth place in the drivers’ standings with 43 points and following the Australian driver, Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing.
He took amazing victory in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia after qualifying for the second grid position. However, in the second race at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, he could not score even a single point even after
securing a competitive grid position.
Nevertheless, he secured an impressive second podium finish in the third race at Shanghai International Circuit in China after setting off from 5th place in the grid.
Conversely, he could not pocket any points again in the fourth race at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir even after showing convincingly good performance in the qualifying.
The 2009 world champion said that there is a need to score point in each and every race so as to be competent enough to claim the title in the end.
“Every race you want to have a good result and you know that a no-score is massive and it really hurts,” Button said. “You've got to be consistently near the front. I don't think it means you hold back going out for a win.”
Furthermore, he said that everyone comes on track with an aim to finish first in the race or at-least to score some reasonable points. He also said that to perform with consistency is critical to win the championship battle.
He said, “You're not going to hold back if there is a manoeuvre or a move to go for, but consistency is going to be very important this year. In your heart we're all here to do one thing and that's to be the first to cross the finishing line, but if that's
not possible you're there to pick up points.”
It will be important to note that at present, the Woking based team is looking forward to the in-season test to be held at Mugello circuit, next week to make the necessary developments for the season ahead.
