Jenson Button: I think we have a very good car – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button thinks that they have a very good car for 2012 Spanish Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on May 13.
Button is currently standing at fourth place in the drivers’ championship with 43 points and he is 5 points behind Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing.
On the other hand, his teammate, Lewis Hamilton has delivered quite consistent performances in the season so far as he has secured third podium finish in the first three races. Moreover, he is at second position in the drivers’ standings with 49 points.
With the pair of world champion drivers, the Woking based team is presently at second place in the constructors’ championship with 92 points. Additionally, they are 9 points behind the defending champions.
Although Button said that MP4-27 has proved out to very competitive car in the season opener and the third race, however, he said that it is not the most competent car as Red Bull Racing’s RB8 and Lotus’ E20 have shown amazing performances in the season
until now.
“I think we have a very good car, we proved that in the first race and also in Shanghai we were very quick but I wouldn't say it is the quickest car,” he said. “If you look at the last race, it wasn't the perfect weekend for us but we basically weren't fast.
The Lotus and the Red Bulls were a second quicker than us so I don't understand why and no one else in F1 understands knows why it is such a change around but I don't think they have a car that is a second quicker than us.”
Furthermore, he said that he cannot make any projections about the Spanish GP. Nevertheless, he said that the conditions of the track on Sunday can prove out to be the most critical factors to decide who will stand where at the end of race.
McLaren are surely amongst one of the most favourite teams in 2012 Formula 1 World Championship as they have the perfect blend of talent and expertise to fight for the title.
