Jenson Button: It is going to be a very emotional experience to race in Japan – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button is very happy to be racing in Japan. He said this ahead of the 2011 Japanese Grand Prix scheduled to take place this weekend, October 7-9, at the Suzuka circuit.
The 31-year-old Brit said, “I consider Japan my second home, it’s a place that’s very close to my heart, and, obviously, it’s going to be a very emotional experience for me to be racing in Japan for the first time since the events of last March.”
The recent tragedies that struck the nation in the form of earthquake and tsunami have caused a massive loss and much distress to the Japanese people. Hence, the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix is seen as a much-needed entertainment that will serve to lighten
up the moods of the people.
Button expressed his concern for the disaster-struck people of Japan and said, “I’m very proud that the Formula 1 world championship will put Japan on the world’s sporting stage next weekend: while the country is still collectively rebuilding itself, I’m
deeply aware that sport can play a significant role in helping to restore hope and normality to communities that were torn apart by the earthquake and tsunami.”
Button, despite starting slow in the ongoing 2011 Formula 1 season, has improved a lot recently and has secured two wins so far in Canada and Hungary.
He finished off the recently held Singapore race in second position after starting from 3rd place on the grid.
Right now, he is the only driver who can mathematically challenge the current championship leader of Red Bull Racing, Sebastian Vettel from grabbing his second consecutive title.
He is very optimistic about his team’s performance at the high-speed Suzuka circuit.
Button currently sits on the second place in the drivers’ championship standings with 185 points from the 14 races held so far. With five races remaining in this year’s Formula 1 calendar, let’s see how the Brit performs.
