Jenson Button: McLaren can dictate pace with small improvements in qualifiers – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Formula 1 driver Jenson Button has stated that his team can really dictate terms in Canada if the qualifier goes as expected.
Button added that the car was good enough to win races in the Spanish and the Monaco Grand Prix which was not to be but come Canada, McLaren can really pull out something from the race.
Button said that their McLaren cars, MP4-26, will suit the Canadian track and will pull out some good results from the race.
“Our car should be well suited to this track; we have a great engine, the best KERS Hybrid system in the sport and excellent traction out of slow corners. All in all, it's set to be another good weekend for us – I'll be looking for a strong result on Sunday,”
stated Button.
The Brit has previously said that the race pace of the McLaren car was good in May 2011 but circumstances were developed which favoured Red Bull and especially Sebastian Vettel.
He said, “There's a real momentum within our team at the moment - I think we had a race car good enough to win in both Spain and Monaco; with a little improvement to our qualifying, I think we can start to dictate race pace.”
He went on to say that the true race pace was shown in the last two races and hopefully something similar or more enhanced will be seen in Canada.
Button finished the Monaco race in third place while starting in third place. He was leading the track for quite a long time before losing his position to Vettel in the middle part of the race.
After that, the German got his fifth race win of the 2011 season but still Button thinks that the glory of Red Bull is quickly becoming a fluke against McLaren.
Button has never won a race in Canada with his best finish coming in the 2010 season when he finished second behind his teammate Lewis Hamilton. Let’s see if he can manage to win the Canadian GP this time when it takes place next weekend, June 12, 2011.
