Jenson Button: McLaren need to sort their problems out as soon as possible – Formula 1 news
The 2009 Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button recently stated after the 2nd day of the 3rd pre-season test session that took place in Barcelona that his team McLaren needs to sort out its reliability issues
in the coming few days of the pre-season test sessions before the 2011 Formula 1 season begins.
McLaren revealed their new car which is known as the MP4-26 a couple of days after the launch of its rivals’ new cars but it seems that the new McLaren have not produced any good results ever since.
However, the team has had a limited amount of running during the pre-season test sessions in Jerez and Barcelona but Jenson stated that he will stay in touch with the team’s leads in order to overcome the reliability issues the team is facing currently.
“We're not doing as many laps as we'd like, so we're a little behind some of the other teams, which is a bit of a disadvantage, but that's something we're addressing. Over the next two days, hopefully our reliability will be better, and we'll be fully equipped
with spare parts,” he said after completing 54 laps on Saturday.
He added that it is important for the team to compete a high amount of mileage in the new car in order to ensure that their car is reliable for the upcoming season.
“Mileage not only helps reliability, but it's also useful for set-up work. It's difficult to balance the car with the front wing when you're trying a variety of tyre compounds and fuel loads. And it's taken a bit of a time, especially at a circuit like this,
where getting the aero balance right is important,” said Jenson.
Nevertheless, Button believes that the team has produced a very good car and the team only needs to “unlock” its full potential. He stated that the team needs to run a couple of mileage tests after which they would achieve their targets before the 2011 Formula
1 season begins on the 13th of March as expected.
