Jenson Button: McLaren will be stronger next season
Even though the driver has lost his 2009 World Championship, yet Jenson Button calls this year a great one. The McLaren driver joined the team at the start of this season, after his old team Brawn GP bagged both the Drivers’ as well as
the Constructors’ Championship last year. His move to the British team was considered a big mistake by many in the sport, as McLaren was called the ‘Lewis Hamilton’s team’. However, the driver believes that he made the right decision as not only the 2010 Formula
One season has gone very well for the team but also he cherishes the firm friendship he has developed with his teammate.
As the season has settled down now, granting both the tiles of this year to the Red Bull Racing, Button talked to the media about his aspirations for the upcoming year and also reflecting upon the gone season.
Above everything else the driver is resolute to come up next season with a lot of improvement in his qualifying pace. The driver is witnessed to be poor on Saturdays due to which the race weekends were seen tough ones as he had a tough
challenge that a low position served. While talking about is biggest weakness of the season, Button said that a strong qualifying next season will be able to grant more race wins and ultimately more points for next year’s title.
The 30-year-old reflected on the season that ended only last weekend saying that besides the fact that he has not been able to defend his title, he still feels satisfied for the way he has performed all through the year.
While talking to the reporters, Button proclaimed that having finished the season at 2nd place in the Constructors’ Championship was a very encouraging thing. Moreover, the driver managed to end the Drivers’ Championship
at 5th place whereas his teammate and fellow country man, Hamilton wrapped up at 4th.
Button also believes that the way the last race of the season and the championship decider of 2010, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix unfolded in a very positive manner for him. He was able to qualify for 4th place while
ended the race at third on the podium. While recalling the last weekend he proudly said that he was happy to have the season packed up on the podium which makes him very optimistic for the next season.
Moreover, he believes that next year the team will come up with a much stronger car, which will further enhance his performance. All through the 2010, the team kept struggling for pace. The initial late developments left the team behind
their close competitors and until the last round, both the team drivers kept complaining that they only have the 3rd fastest car of the season while Red Bull and Ferrari are much faster than them.
When asked about his experience in the team for the first season, Button was excited to exclaim, “It's really been a fantastic year. It's hard to think that I only joined this team at the start of the year - I've been made to feel so welcome,
and such a part of the team, that it feels like I've been here far longer.”
The start of the season was very encouraging for the driver, as he was quick to bag race wins quite early in Australia and China, however no victory came his way at the middle or end of the season. Still, a few strong weekends were embraced
by the driver including the second place finishes at the Turkish and Canadian Grand Prix, and almost another win at Monza. The 3rd place finish in Abu Dhabi also saw spectacular racing skills by the driver as he bagged 3rd place
on the podium.
While concluding his interview, the handsome young man said, “There are plenty of positives to take away from the year. The relationship with Lewis (Hamilton), my engineers and my mechanics also worked out really well. I do feel part of
the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes family now.”
