Jenson Button: Nothing going McLaren’s way, German Grand Prix pole out of question – Formula 1
McLaren driver Jenson Button has stated that the pole position of the German Grand Prix of 2011 Formula 1 season is not theirs to take as all sorts of upgrade problems were seen in the car during the Friday Practice sessions.
Button added that he was not able to get the best out of the car and had all sorts of problems with the downforce, Kinetic Energy Recovery System and Pirelli soft tyres on the Nurburgring track.
Although McLaren have not taken a pole position yet in the 2011 season but for the first time both Button and his British teammate, Lewis Hamilton have stated that pole position is out of question.
Button stated, “I finally got a good balance with the car and found some rear grip from somewhere and ran on the option tyre and it felt pretty good but all afternoon I haven't had KERS so for us that's a lot of lap time from braking and corner exits.”
He further added, “One to forget. The set-up today, the problems and the failures - yes it's not good. It wasn't perfect and then I did one lap on the soft tyre and I had a problem with the exhaust - it's a test part on the car - and it failed.”
Button finished 6th and 11th in the two practice sessions of the German Grand Prix on Friday. Hamilton was ahead of Button in both sessions but he also stated that Ferrari and Red Bull were in contention of the pole positions.
Button was more than a second slower than the pace sitters in both sessions and was also overtaken by the Mercedes’ duo in the second session which tells that McLaren have not excelled for the German Grand Prix.
McLaren are second on the constructors’ championship table behind the Red Bull team but they are starting to slip down in the drivers’ championship table as both British drivers have been overtaken by Fernando Alonso.
