Jenson Button: Red Bull Racing cannot be discounted after Australian GP – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that Red Bull Racing cannot be marked down from the championship, after he won the 2012 Australian Grand Prix.
However, he said that the positions may have been reversed.
“You cannot discount them, they (Red Bull) are always there,” said Australian GP winner Jenson Button, “But it seems that the tables have turned.”
Furthermore, McLaren would have been surely hoping for it to be true after having not been able to claim the title since 2008 with Lewis Hamilton.
“Red Bull needs to dress warmly,” German racing legend Hans-Joachim Stuck told Sport1, “Although I see McLaren on an equal footing only.”
He also said that the results of the season opener should not be over-analyzed.
“This is not a benchmark for the rest of the season — the Malaysia circuit is much more meaningful because who is good there is good everywhere,” he said.
Conversely, McLaren expressed that they could have performed even better during the last week.
“We were more than marginal on fuel,” boss Martin Whitmarsh is quoted by Kleine Zeitung newspaper. “There is no question we could have been faster (in Australia).”
It would be interesting to mention that two time world champion, Red Bull driver, Sebastian Vettel had warned McLaren that they had a ‘master plan’ and they would work at their best to find their car’s potential, just in the next few upcoming races of this
season.
Vettel’s second position on Sunday had not been viewed as that bad. Moreover, he had been considered as the outright favourite for the championship title despite the problems faced during the last day of the final test held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona
due to the upgrades made in the car.
Besides, he said that they had gathered some valuable information about the car and would fight hard with McLaren in the second Grand Prix at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
In addition, three-time world champion, Niki Lauda admitted that the defending championships would catch up soon.
Moreover, Red Bull team advisor, Dr. Helmut Marko had also stated that they did not bring everything out of the car until now. Therefore, they were quite positive for the races ahead.
