Jenson Button admits he angered many Ferrari fans after winning the Brazilian GP – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Jenson Button has admitted that many Ferrari fans were angered as he won the Brazilian Grand Prix and Fernando Alonso finished second losing the championship to Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel.
“[Winning in Brazil] was a great way to end the season and hopefully for all the guys working that'll be good for 2013,” Button said. “I had so many angry Ferrari fans, but it was nice to make Christian [Horner] happy. I look forward to doing that again
many times next year.”
Button also appreciated his former McLaren teammate Lewis Hamilton who will be joining Mercedes next year.
He said, “For me the excitement of going to McLaren was obviously in racing for the team, but it was also racing against Lewis. He's unbelievably fast.”
Button said that he has worked with the people who are now working at Mercedes and Hamilton will definitely enjoy his time with the team.
The driver is also looking forward to becoming the lead driver for McLaren next season. He said that he is very excited about being the driver who will help the team to improve and the fact that the team will be working to develop a car suitable for him.
He told that one thing that he really likes about the team is that they take the driver’s opinion seriously. He stated that in McLaren, a driver not only gets to race but also gets to take part in developing a better car.
Sauber F1’s Sergio Perez will be replacing Hamilton and Button is really looking forward to working with him. Martin Whitmarsh, who is the McLaren team principal, had signed on Perez for his podium finishes earlier this season and Button said that he is
keen to learn so it will be fun to have him on the team.
Despite the constant reliability problems with the car, McLaren did show a good qualifying pace throughout the season. Button said that the team has proved with this season that how passionate it is about motor racing.
Button confessed that the team is like a family and he had not expected that at the time of his joining.
