Jenson Button admits pace was not good in qualifying round of German Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has blamed lack of tyre grip for his seventh place finish on the grid in the Qualifiers of the 2011 Formula 1 German Grand Prix.
Button also mentioned that the car’s performance was better during the qualifying round, but the grip of the medium and soft tyres mystified him throughout the Qualifiers.
The Briton was fifth fastest at the Final Practice session on Saturday morning. He admitted that he could not match his Final practice session pace with the qualifying round of the German Grand Prix, as the tyres were not supportive during that.
Talking to reporters, Button said, “It was pretty terrible. I just didn't have any pace on either tyre, I struggled on both the hard and the soft tyre and I don't really know where the pace has gone from this morning. We need to do something because the
pace isn't there and the frustrating thing is that it was this morning.”
He went on to mention, “The weather has got to do something, I'm 1.1s behind my team-mate so there is something big going on there. I don't whether we are just outside the operating window for the tyres but something isn't working properly.”
The 31-year-old driver was 1.1 seconds slower than his teammate Lewis Hamilton, who secured a second place for Sunday’s race.
Button made a lot of struggle on the medium and soft compounds and finally, ended up at the seventh place.
The team driver was unhappy with his Nürburgring Qualifier’s results, as he was hoping for a good place for the German Grand Prix following a positive Final Free Practice session.
On the other hand, his teammate Lewis Hamilton is happy with his performance in the qualifying round at the German racetrack. He had a great time over there and secured a second place for Sunday’s race.
Despite a disappointing qualifying round in Nürburgring, Button is looking forward to a successful German Grand Prix on Sunday, July 24, 2011.
