Jenson Button aiming to put pressure on Red Bull Racing at Spa-Francorchamps – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that at the moment his aim is to put pressure on rivals Red Bull Racing at the upcoming Belgium Grand Prix, which will start from August 26, 2011 at Spa-Francorchamps.
Button added that his MP4-26 car is competitive from the last few races of the 2011 Formula 1 season. He stated that he believes they can increase heat on the current championship front-runners in the last eight rounds of the ongoing season.
The team driver discussed about the new Pirelli tyres and mentioned that he does not think the selection of tyres for the next races of the season, taking place in Belgium and Italy respectively will affect them too much during the Grands Prix.
Talking to reporters, Button said, “It felt great to go into the summer break off the back of the win in Hungary. That was a race I think we could just as well have won in the dry as in the damp - which will be worth bearing in mind in Spa, as it'll probably
be wet and dry at some point during the weekend.”
The Brit went on to mention, “I don't think DRS will be as critical here as it's been at some of the other circuits. I'm still not certain where it will be deployed, but there is always been lots of opportunities to use the slipstream up the hill out of
Eau Rouge to pass into Les Combes.”
The 31-year-old driver won two races in the 2011 F1 season so far. However, he added that he is looking forward to another race victory in the last races of the season following his strong two races in Canada and Hungary.
After 11 races of the ongoing season, Button is at the fifth place in the 2011 drivers’ championship with a gap of 100 points from the current leading driver Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel.
The Woking-based outfit driver talked to the media and commented that he is very excited for the upcoming Belgium Grand Prix, as he wants to perform well on it after getting strong results from the last couple of races.
Let’s see how Button performs at the Spa-Francorchamps this weekend following his race victory in Budapest.
