Jenson Button aiming to strike back in 2012 European Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button is aiming to strike back in 2012 European Grand Prix which is to be held at Valencia Street Circuit in Spain on June 24 after facing difficulties in the last four races.
Button could not be able to score even a single point in the last race held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10 as he came 16th after setting off from 10th grid position. Moreover, he has been seen struggling with the car’s setup and the
tyre management because of which he could only score 2 points in the last four grands prix.
Nonetheless, he is apparently one of the most favourite drivers as he delivered an incredible performance in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia and became the first race winner of 2012 Formula 1 season after starting from second
grid position.
Furthermore, he has said that he is ready to fight back and positively looking forward to perform well in the next race.
“The last few races haven't delivered the results I'd like, but there are still 13 races to go,” said Button. “We've had seven different winners and no clear championship leader has emerged, so I'll be looking to get a decent result under my belt next weekend
in order to get my title bid back on track. I know just how strong Vodafone McLaren Mercedes can be. Valencia is track I really enjoy; I've already won on a street circuit this year so I'm definitely optimistic about having a great weekend and picking up the
momentum again in the title fight.”
At present, he is at 8th position in the drivers’ championship with 45 points. Besides, he is ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber-Ferrari and behind Romain Grosjean of Lotus with 8 points.
It will be important to note that after the Canadian GP, the British driver seemed quite frustrated on his poor performances in the last few races and he expressed that he doesn’t know what is going wrong with him.
Nevertheless, the team principal of McLaren, Martin Whitmarsh showed support for Button and said that they are all set to provide him with everything which he may need so as to improve his performance in the upcoming races.
