Jenson Button aims to perform well in qualifying of 2012 Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button is aiming to perform well in the qualifying of 2012 Canadian Grand Prix so as to secure a competitive grid position for the race which is to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve on June 10.
Button is currently standing at 7th place in the drivers’ championship between the pair of Lotus drivers, Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean with 45 points.
Even though, he took an amazing victory in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia. Conversely, he has only been able to score 2 points in the last three grands prix as he struggled with the car’s setup and tyre management.
Nevertheless, he has expressed that he is positively looking forward to improve his performance in the qualifying of the Canadian GP so as to secure a good position in the race.
“This weekend it's going to be important to get a handle on car in qualifying,” he said. “At last two races, Q2 hasn't gone my way, so, no matter what pace you have in race, you're still compromised on Sunday afternoon, particularly as pack is so tightly
bunched at the moment. My aim for weekend will be to have a stronger qualifying performance and to be able to build on that in race.”
It will be important to mention that 2009 world champion took one of the most impressive victories in Montreal during the last season as he overtook Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing on wet track during the final lap.
He added, “Montreal is always a race I look forward to anyway. The city has such a great vibe, people are friendly and fans are incredibly passionate.”
On the other hand, his teammate, Lewis Hamilton has performed quite consistently in the season so far as he secured third podium finish in the first three races. However, he also faced difficulties in two of the last three races in which he could not convert
his competitive grid position in a podium finish because of the poor pit stop strategy.
Nevertheless, the team principal of McLaren, Martin Whitmarsh said that they are ready to provide their drivers everything which they may need in order to improve their performance in the upcoming graces.
