Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton defend Martin Whitmarsh at McLaren team – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Formula 1 pair Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton has stated that their team boss Martin Whitmarsh will be with the team despite recent questions regarding his credibility in the team.
Button stated that Whitmarsh has been treated unfairly after the Silverstone Grand Prix however the team and the engineers are absolutely fine with him. Button added that Whitmarsh is very open minded towards the drivers which is a very good trait for a
team boss to have.
“It was said people are unsure of his position within the team, the engineers and mechanics. That's absolute rubbish. For me he is a great person to work with. He is very light-hearted in some ways, but very serious in others,” added Button.
Hamilton on the other hand added that there is no way Whitmarsh is leaving the team after all the media hype. Hamilton added that Whitmarsh has been part of the company for 23 years and has seen many ups and downs and is no way he could quit just after one
bad race.
Hamilton stated, “There's no chance of that. There is a better atmosphere within the team than there ever has been, it is constantly growing. He has been a part of the team for 23 years, so a part of the ups and the downs for many years, but he is doing
a fantastic job.”
For Button, Silverstone was again a lost chance to finish on the podium when he had quite a competitive car. Button was forced to retire after his right front tyre came lose just at the pit exit.
As far as Hamilton was concerned, he only managed a fourth position after his fuel level became critical in the latter part of the race and he had to give away his podium fight.
McLaren team is second on the championship table behind the Red Bull team and the British duo is confident that the British team principal will remain in the team.
