Jenson Button believes McLaren can beat Red Bull in 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button believes that they can beat their main rival, Red Bull Racing in the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix which is going to be held at Yas Marina Circuit this weekend.
Button performed quite convincingly in the Indian GP and secured fifth place finish behind his teammate, Lewis Hamilton.
Although, he was 26 seconds behind Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull who took his fourth consecutive victory after claiming the pole position in the preceding race. Nevertheless, he asserted that they are not feeling upset and are positively looking forward to
reduce the gap to the defending champions in the forthcoming race.
Furthermore, he said that he is expecting a very tough battle amongst the top three contenders in the race ahead. Therefore, he said that he cannot make any kind of projections about the approaching race.
Besides, he said that the Milton Keynes based team has managed to take the best out of their update package and has attained competitive results in the last few races. Nonetheless, he said that they are trying their best to make the substantial preparations
to come up stronger in the remainder of the season and are aiming to close the gap to their opponents at the front.
“I think this will be another closely matched race: India showed us that the gap between the top three teams is extremely close at the moment, so I wouldn't like to predict the exact pecking order,” Button said. “As in the last few races, I think Red Bull
will go into weekend with slight advantage, but I'm confident that, with a clear run through practice, we can be right up there too.”
In addition, he said that even though it is very difficult to overtake at the track of the upcoming race. However, he expressed that they targeting to maximise their potential and are hoping to strike back in this weekend’s race.
“While it'll be quite tough to overtake around here - even with DRS - I'm hopeful that we can have another great battle, which would be fantastic for the fans,” he added.
