Jenson Button believes McLaren is getting back to its winning ways – Formula 1 news
Jenson Button has said that McLaren is “right back in the hunt” after the Brit finished second in the recently concluded German Grand Prix.
McLaren have had a seesaw of a 2012 season so far, as the team has verged from being tagged as the favourites of the season to fighting to be in the top three for the Constructors’ Championship.
It shows how competitive the season has been and teams have little room of making any mistakes.
Button however feels that the team has done well after introducing the new package in the car which has been able to bring good results as Button finishes second at Hockenheim. Button’s teammate Lewis Hamilton was unfortunate to be hit with a puncture early
in the race which placed him down in the order. Hamilton was not really able to recover from the puncture and later retired from the race but it was evident that he was very quick.
Hamilton was able to un-lap himself from Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel who after the race expressed his frustration at the Brits decision to un-lap himself. Vettel said that Hamilton did not need to do that considering the situation of the race but the
main factor is that the McLaren car was fast enough to do that and that is what the team will be looking forward to the coming Grand Prix at Budapest, Hungary.
“The result in Germany puts us right back in the hunt,” Button said. “In that situation, there's nothing better than a back-to-back weekender: you return to the cockpit almost before you've unpacked your bags from the previous race, so it's great to carry
forward that momentum.”
“Of course, Hungary's a very special place for me: I won my first grand prix there back in 2006, I celebrated my 200th grand prix there on the Saturday evening with some of my oldest friends and colleagues in the paddock and I went on to win the grand prix
on Sunday. It was the perfect weekend,” he added.
It will be interesting to see how McLaren perform in the coming races and whether they will be able to fight for the Constructors title or not.
