Jenson Button claims drivers want the Singapore Grand Prix shortened – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Jenson Button has recently claimed that the drivers want the organisers of the Singapore Grand Prix to shorten the race length as it is too long and a big challenge for the racers due to its duration.
“It's a very tough race because it's long, the longest on the calendar, normally about two hours. Mentally it's very tiring because it's low speed, like Monaco in a way with the barriers so close to the circuit, very bumpy, dark, so it's very demanding for
the drivers. We find it very, very tough, and after the race you are shattered, in pieces,” Button told Sporting Life.
He added that the Singapore Grand Prix is one of those races which needs to be shortened as it gets a bit too long and mentally tiring for the drivers because of the bumpy street-like nature of the track which also makes it difficult for driving.
“I do a lot of work in a hot climate beforehand. This year I was in Japan where it's very humid at the moment, which is great, perfect for Singapore,” he said.
Currently, it lasts for 2 hours according to the amount of laps and lap times the drivers complete on an average and one has to admit that it is definitely the longest race of the Formula 1 calendar.
Since it takes place in Asia, the weather is quite hot as well which makes it even more difficult for the drivers.
The main reason why many drivers face some issues on this track is that most of them belong from European or other continents except Asia where the weather is not quite hot comparatively.
Either way, Formula 1 is a universal sport and since a lot of Asian tracks are now a part of the calendar, the drivers must be prepared for these sorts of events in advance.
