Jenson Button claims he struggled to increase the tyre temperature at the qualifying session in Korea
Jenson Button claimed that he had trouble in his attempt to bring about an increase in the tyre temperature as he qualified in seventh place at the Korean Grand Prix.
Throughout the Friday practice sessions, the reigning world champion was trading the fastest laps of the session with his teammate Lewis Hamilton and the other front runners. However, an overcast sky before the qualifying session this Saturday meant that
the track was several degrees cooler than it was on Friday. Jenson was not driving up to the mark and struggled his way through to the third qualifying session. Unexpectedly, he did not trouble the front runners of the grid throughout the session.
“Yesterday and this morning I was very happy with the car; the balance was extremely good and we were looking strong. This afternoon I couldn't get the tyres up to temperature and struggled a bit with locking fronts and rears. I didn't have enough grip and
couldn't find enough pace,” he said.
However, with a possibility of a rainy race on Sunday, the McLarens are looking quicker through sector 1 and Button is still optimistic about bagging a good result at the culmination of the race.
“It's going to be a bit tough tomorrow, whatever the weather does. But the good news is that I'll be starting from the clean side of the grid, and there are a couple of long straights after the first corner, so it'll be a fun first lap,” he added.
It is immature of the British driver to blame the tyre pressure for what can be termed an ordinary performance. There is a need for pragmatism and he must accept that he will have to work hard on the track since he is currently placed at 7 with world class
drivers to give him ample trouble ahead of him. Recovering from such a high deficit is not an easy job and since he is not an aggressive driver, he will struggle to get ahead of the pack. Those who are currently placed ahead of him include drivers like his
teammate Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg and Felipe Massa.
It is going to be a very tough race for Jenson and it looks like he will have to give up on the title after this weekend’s race and at least help his teammate in trying to win. This way he will be able to keep within the team.
